Why your back pain is a GOOD thing

back pain May 25, 2020

What if your back pain was actually a GOOD thing? 👼

We usually see pain as bad. 👿

We fear it.

We think it’s trying to hurt us.

We do whatever we can to avoid it or make it go away as quickly as possible.

But really it’s your body’s way of trying to communicate with you. It’s telling you that something is wrong.

Something needs your attention.

Something is being neglected.

Perhaps we are speaking different languages so that good intention gets lost in translation.

It’s like me and my dog Travis.

Sometimes I get distracted with mom life and I unintentionally ignore him.

Then he starts barking at me. At first I try to shush him because it’s really loud and annoying.

But then I remember he is letting me know he needs something so I start running through the check list:

When was the last time he was out?

Is it time for him to eat?

Did my daughter steal one of his toys and hide it in her play kitchen again?

Nope, water bowl is empty. Got it *refills*

Maybe if I paid attention to him when he was following me around everywhere, he wouldn’t have started barking.

Same goes for your back pain.

It’s communicating something to you. You just need to tune into the same frequency as it so you understand it more clearly.

Maybe if you listened to your body more, it doesn’t have to scream to get your attention.

There’s a hidden superhero power that we all have that can help you interpret your pain so you can suffer less and get better results.

Mindfulness.

Mindfulness helps you to separate the negative thoughts that often arise with pain - fear, anxiety, worry - that end up amplifying the pain and making it worse.

Instead, you can relax your body, notice the sensations you are experiencing, and respond to them in a non judgemental way.

Like if your dog were to suddenly start speaking English and politely asked for what he needed. 🐕
